South Bay Scene (part of Scene Circuit) is a small local guide. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect on this website and in the app at app.scenecircuit.com, and what we do with it. Questions: [email protected].
This website
- No accounts, no ads tracking, no analytics scripts, and no cookies set by us.
- The newsletter box opens your own email app with a pre-filled message to us. We only get your address if you send it.
- Our host (Cloudflare) keeps standard server logs, such as IP address and pages requested, to run and protect the site.
The app
You can browse without an account. We store only what you choose to give us:
- Email sign-in. If you sign in, we store your email and send you one-time sign-in links (sent via our email provider). Your login is kept in your browser's local storage, not a tracking cookie.
- Things you save or post. Favorites, check-ins, reviews, photos, event suggestions, city proposals and Local Favorites tips. Posts are reviewed before they appear publicly, along with the name or credit you give.
- Optional email on tips and proposals. Used only to contact you about that submission, never shown publicly.
- Location. Only if you allow it in your browser, used to show what's near you. If you turn on nearby alerts, we store the approximate location and radius you picked so we can send them.
- Newsletter. If you subscribe in the app we store your email and city edition. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Spam protection. For tip submissions we keep a one-way hash of your IP address (not the address itself) to block abuse, and we briefly keep IPs in memory to rate-limit forms.
- Anonymous insights. Only if you opt in, we combine activity from many users (never shown individually, and only above a minimum group size) to suggest tags for venues.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers.
- We don't run third-party ad or analytics trackers.
Who else handles data
Only the services needed to run things: our hosting providers (Fly.io for the app, Cloudflare for this site), our email provider for sign-in and newsletter emails, and OpenStreetMap's Nominatim, which receives addresses (not your identity) when we look up venue locations.
Your choices
Email us to see, correct or delete your account and anything you've posted, and we'll handle it. You can also unsubscribe from any email, turn off location in your browser, and clear the app from your browser storage at any time.
Kids
The app isn't meant for children under 13, and many listings are bars for adults 21+.
Changes
If this changes, we'll update this page and the date above.
